Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Heron Jones, 7th Viscount Ranelagh 1812 -1885 was known for his involvement in the volunteer movement to recruit amateur soldiers for the defence of Britain, and for his links to glamorous women, notably the Pre-Raphaelite model Annie Miller and the actress Lillie Langtry. Heron Jones succeeded to an Irish peerage, becoming Viscount Ranelagh and Baron Jones of Navan in 1820 on the death of his father. Size is 110mm x 65mm. In good condition. Light folding creases. Laid down on the front free endleaf is a rubberstamp slip from Croppers carrying a presentation inscription to John Goodwin from Willink. A centenary history of Cropper's involvement in the Burneside papermill near Kendal, which also discusses social conditions in the village and includes a revised version of Jones's History of Burneside, original published in 1912.
