Thomas Knigge (1757-1787) "geboren 1757 zu Regensburg, promovirte zum Dr. med. 1780 in Erlangen mit der "Disss. de mentha piperitide" (auch selbständig u. d. T.: "Commenta…tio botanico-medica de mentha piperitide" erschienen), liess sich dann als Arzt in seiner Vaterstadt nieder, starb aber daselbst bereits im jugendlichen Alter von 30 Jahren um 1787. Seine Schriften sind unter dem Titel.: "Medicinische Fragmente aus der Verlassenschaft des Herrn Thomas Knigge, nebst dessen Lebenslauf und Schattenriss" von Joh. Jac. Kohlhaas (Regensburg 1788 herausgegeben. Es handeln diese Fragmente - 4 an der Zahl - von der Unsicherheit der Todeszeichen und über die Gefahr des Lebendigbegrabenwerdens, über Temperamente und deren Einfluss auf den Verstand, Vertheidigung der Arrzte gegen ungerechte Vorwürfe., Prüfung der zur Erklärung der Naevi gemachten Hypthesen. Ausserdem hat Knigge an verschiedenen Journalen mitgearbeitet." Julius Pagel, Hirsch/H. III, p.588 Enthält ferner "Vermischte Aufsätze" und "Recensionen". Zum Herausgeber - Johann Jacob Kohlhaas (1747-1808), "Arzt und Stadtphysicus zu Regensburg, geb. zu Markgröningen 1747, widmete sich neben seinem Berufe der Naturgeschichte, namentlich der Botanik und wurde 1790 zum Präsidenten der botanischen Gesellschaft in Regensburg gewählt. K. starb 1811. Er schrieb: "Anleitung zur Bildung ächter Wundärzte", 6 Bde., Regensburg 1784-94 und "Einleitung in die Naturgeschichte überhaupt und in die Kräuterkunde besonders", Nürnberg, 1803."
