Add to basketCondition: Fine. This important etching was published as part of John McCreery's "A Collection of Original Etchings". It was published in London by McCreery in 1816. Each etching was pasted to backing paper. The original copper plates were believed to be destroyed after this publication. --- Most of the etchings are printed from… the original plates of the artist. It features original plate etchings from the artists: Corenlius Bega (1654), Claude Lorraine (1660), Dominique Barriere (and Lorraine) (1651), Horizonti, Hollar (1641-1647), Theodore Van Kessel (1654), Peter de Laer (1636), Rembrandt, some after Rembrandt by Vivares, Van Vliet (1632), Thomas Wyck (1670), and Ruysdael (1668). The work also featured etchings after the artwork of Rembrant, Ruysdael, Du Jardin, Della Bella, and more. --- The work is in very good to excellent condition overall. Acquaforte misure: mm 132 x 120 Pittore e incisore, soprannominato "Tommaso fiammingo", attivo a Roma intorno al 1640, ad Haarlem e per un breve periodo a Londra. Il suo stile rientra in quello dei Bamboccianti, pittori olandesi operanti a Roma nel pieno Seicento. E' ricordato per le scene di… genere ambientate in paesaggi italianizzanti, rovine o contesti urbani. Il soggetto è tratto da La vita di Lazarillo di Tormes, delle sue fortune e avversità. Racconto spagnolo di autore anonimo scritto in prima persona come un'unica lunga lettera. Vi è narrata la vita di un giovane accattone, Lazzaro di Tormes, ambientato nella Spagna del XVI secolo. Ne è una feroce critica con risvolti anticlericali, bollata come eretica dall'Inquisizione. Al centro della scena l'anziano mendicante cieco, che Lazzarillo accompagna e sfrutta in una serie di furti e sotterfugi, è inseguito da un cane e va a sbattere contro una colonna. Tre figure osservano la scena riparandosi dietro la colonna, a destra alcune donne presso una fontana. Lo sfondo è occupato da una scalinata, alcuni edifici e la facciata della chiesa romana di Santa Maria in Aracoeli. Il segno corto e vibrante, mai incrociato, si infittisce nelle zone in ombra quasi a simulare l'effetto di un disegno. In basso a sinistra sulla colonna inciso il monogramma TW. Probabile III/III stato come indicato nell'esemplare conservato al MET. Ottima impressione ben contrastata su carta leggera priva di vergelle. Tiratura postuma. Piccoli margini oltre la battuta. Ottimo stato di conservazione eccetto qualche piega agli angoli visibile per lo più al verso. Al verso scritta a penna: Fochy Enacht (?) 1817 X 12.
