A delightful little book, dedicated "to The Honourable Frederick Ponsonby . . . and to the Marylebone, Zingari and Incogniti Cricket Clubs". After the Preface, during which the author embarks on an anecdote of introducing cricket into a school in France, there is a Treatise on Cricket which is split between cricket's origins and laws, batting, bowling, fielding and 'Management of Matches'. Then, the final part is of 'Conversation', with the French cricket anecdote picked up on and developed, and during which there is poetry and a little music. For its age, book assessed in fair condition: cover marked and chipped with wear around corners and at top and bottom of spine; a little handwriting on top of inside front cover; foxing heavily across all of the title page; binding a little weak at pages 48-49; the bottom of all pages is darkened by some sort of stain (see one of the accompanying images); some other occasional mark internally; rear cover a little marked.
