Curved corners to boards. Top of text block edges are stained brown, with white wove end papers, and illustrated with some 48 black and white halftone photo reproductions, and with a color foldout map at the rear of the book. Printed in Great Britain by The Devonshire Press, Torquay, xxxii, 1-460pp. [4]pp. In English. CONDITION: Very Good. One small mark to boards. Some light shelf wear and a bit of fray at the head and tail of the spine. Inside is clean, hinges in order, and pages are only slightly age-toned. A still very useable quide to its subject for the tourist or art historian, which the Author describes as his personal selection of favorites to show visitors to the Eternal City. The Foreward gives a brief history of the Christian Church in Rome, and a vocabulary for discussing the architectural components. Descriptions of 35 individual churches follow, each with their own chapters on the origins, decorations and particular merits to be found within, and feast day calendar. Book.
