La presente opera di deciani risulta completa e riunisce tre edizioni dei Resp. La prima edizione dei Responsorum clarissimi, ac celeberrimi v. i. consultissimi fu edita in tre volumi più indice contenente l'apologia di Deciani per opera di Hieronimo e Ioannem Zenarios 1579, il quarto e quinto volume vennero editi per la prima volta a Udine nella edizione definitiva dell'opera di Deciani che il tipografo Natolinus editò in 5 tomi nel 1594(rif. Diz. Bb. Dei friulani); la presente opera venne edita in 5 edizioni. Il consilium, o parere del giurista, era un'eredità del Medioevo e rappresentava la forma attraverso la quale il diritto comune (la fonte primaria di tutti i consilia) si inseriva nella pratica giudiziaria. Il sesto volume contiene l'indice e l'apologia nella quale, Deciani rivendicava con forza il ruolo di un giurista che, assoluto padrone di tutti gli aspetti "tecnici" del diritto, riuscisse, al di là delle astrattezze filologiche della scuola colta, a coniugare felicemente teoria e prassi, sostenendo che non poteva essere definito giureconsulto chi non sapeva decidere una controversia( il presente scritto venne realizzato da D. in risposta allo scritto Parergon di Alciato). L'Apologia venne inserita successivamente nei Responsorum d. Tiberii Deciani Utinensis, clarissimi ac celeberrimi iuris utriusque consultissimi comitis., Utini, Giovanni Battista Natolini, 1594 (ediz. successive Francoforte 1596, Venezia 1602). Secondo BRUGI, Un biasimo e un'apologia cit., 105, «in alcuni punti del libro il Deciani è originale; ma in parecchi altri» emerge un atteggiamento eccessivamente favorevole ai Consilia: «Così in certo qual modo quest'Apologia prende il carattere di una collettiva risposta dei consulenti italiani al loro Aristarco».

(34 e 43), lieve brunitura di alcune pagine, rari segni a matita, piccolo foro a pag 456 e al frontespizio del tomo I e 8 del tomo II, macchia di inchiostro blu da pag. 231 a 234 tomo II che non compromette la leggibilità del testo e piccole macchiette blu al taglio delle pagine finali, piccoli strappetti e lievi mancanze al taglio di alcune pagine non toccano il testo, opera in condizioni generali buone. Tiberio Deciani è figura di passaggio dalla criminalistica di diritto comune a quella dell'età moderna. Fu docente a Padova, erudito sensibile alle proposte metodologiche degli umanisti, stimato consulente, giurista al servizio delle politiche veneziane, e il suo Tractatus criminalis presenta caratteri di forte originalità sia nella struttura espositiva degli argomenti, sia nella parte dedicata all'analisi degli elementi generali del delitto. L'impegno teorico di ridurre i criminalia entro un sistema razionale e deduttivo, in ragione dell'autonomia scientifica raggiunta dalla materia e in funzione delle politiche egemoniche dei principi, avrà una fortuna di lungo periodo nella scienza penale. La prima edizione del Tractatus criminalis utramque continens censuram è pubblicata a Venezia nel 1590. Seguono altre cinque edizioni senza alcuna differenza testuale: Venezia 1590 apud Franciscum de Fransciscis senensem, Francoforte 1591, poi accresciuta da Pieter Cornelius van Brederode e ristampata, sempre a Francoforte, nel 1613; Torino 1593; Venezia 1614.
