Boards are dented along edges, scuffed at corners and spine ends, including a 2 cm tear to spine foot. Light foxing to page block face and a few small marks to covers. A first edition copy of this scarce illustrated history of Wolverhampton, from its origins to the early nineteenth century. The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original price-clipped dust wrapper. Ink inscription and previous owner's stamp to the front free end paper. Gerald Poynton Mander was a Midland historian, antiquarian scholar, genealogist, author, editor and archaeologist. This is his history of Wolverhampton from its origins to the early nineteenth century, with chapters on Dr. Oliver, St. Peter's Collegiate Church and the Domesday Book. Illustrated throughout and edited by Norman W. Tildesley. A folding plan of Wolverhampton is pasted to the rear paste down. In publisher's original cloth binding, with original price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for some offsetting to the half title page. Dust wrapper remains bright but is chipped to the head of the spine and to the lower extremities, with a couple of closed tears and small losses. Front flap is split along the fold in three places.
