Condition: A very good copy. Kaune, Isleido Myk. Mardosas [back cover: Mankien s spaustuv ], 1926, First edition. A very good copy. ĞAmong Lithuanian avant-garde books it is the one that most fully embodies the Futurist spirit, from the cover to the theme and the poetic techniqueğ (Salaris). Very scarce. No copies in the trade or in auctions. Only two institutional holdings according to OCLC and KVK, the one of the "Martynas Mavydas" National Library of Lithuania (a rebound copy), and the one of Kent State Uni Library (Ohio). -- The author's first book, an avant-garde and satirical "poem" in three parts, each one more or less explicitly parodying Lithuanian writer: respectively, the poets Faustas Kira and Jouzas Tysliava, and the versatile Lithuanian-Polish writer Juozapas Albinas Herba auskas. The parody effect is achieved by clashing the high symbolist style of the originals with lowbrow pop and typically avant-garde vocabulary. Tilvytis, after the leader Binkis, is considered the second important figure among the ĞKeturi V jaiğ group, and a poet of great versification skills. ĞT. Wrappers, 42 [6] pp. The book in Near Fine condition, without any visible defects, losses and remarks. Little frayed cover edges, creaser across the bottom right corner of front cover, light brown round damp stain on the back cover; internally perfect condition. Amazing avant-garde photomontage cover design in black, red and white by R. Vosylius. Present book is author s second collection of satirical poems after 3 Granadieriai (Three Grenadiers), which parodies the symbolists and romantics. In 13 he deepens and refines the same direction and revals himself as a striking master of parody and satire, where masterfully modeled not only choosen characters, but also rhythms, sounds, writing style by using hyberloles in the type of comic grimaces. 13 is the greatest author s quest to expose ritualized cultural authority. The book s name is given because of 13 poets, whom each verse is parodying. This list represents a Parnassus of modern Lithuanian literature, most prominent representatives of different movements: romantists - Maironis and Faustas Kirsa; symbolists Liudas Gira, Balys Sruoga, Petras Vaiciunas, Vincas Mykolaitis and Jouzas Zlabys-Zenge; members of avant-garde group Keturi vejai (Four Winds) and author s like-minded colleagues: Kazys Binkis, Salys Semerys, Juozas Tysliava, Antanas Rimydis and Teofilis Tilvytis himself. Teofilis Tilvytis (1904-1969) famous Lithuanian and Soviet poet, translator. He first published his works in 1923. Early writings were mostly satirical genre. From 1924 to 1928 was a very important figure of cult avant-garde literary movement Keturi vejai (Four Winds). In the Soviet period Tilvytis mainly wrote lyric and epic poems providing socialist realism. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and varioud medals.

Kaunas: Keturi? v?j? leidinys, 1928. Octavo (18 × 12 cm). Original pictorial wrappers; 43, [3] pp. Small private owner signature to title; old bookstore mark inside rear wrapper; small restoration to upper edge of rear wrapper; else about very good. First edition of this long satirical poem which takes aim at the saccharine pathos of various literary contemporaries: "The epigrams, parodies, and feuilletons of Teofilis Tilvytis are filled with laughter. T. Tilvytis laughed at tearful sensuality, romantic literary stamps, saccharine poetry. In his poem "I?pardavimas d??ios" (1928), wearing a clown's mask, he parodied the work of Romantics and Symbolists, such as Maironis, Faustas Kir?a, Kazis Binkis, Putinas, Balys Sruoga, etc. The neurotic state characteristic of the Expressionists is here broken down into geometric lines that deliberately destroy the illusion of reality." (h ttp:// w ww.tekstai. lt/tekstai/368-tilvytis-teofilis/7645-tilvytis-ispardavimas-dusios-1928) Apart from Kazys Binkis, Tilvytis (1904-1969) is considered the second leading figure of the "Four Winds" (Keturi V?jai) group. Interestingly, he later became a conservative member of the Soviet Writer's Union who detested all things modern and adhered to a strict socialist realism. Nevertheless, at the time he was one of the most influential interpreters of the futurist style, which the Lithuanians had picked up primarily through the works of Vladimir Mayakovsky. With a striking unattributed cover. Pictured in Jankevi?i?t?, Lietuvos grafika (The Graphic Arts in Lithuania, 1918-1940), p. 142. As of August 2024, KVK and OCLC show one copy worldwide.
