Come dice nella prefazione il premio Nobel Bragg (1890 1971), "vivo è il bisogno di comprendere dove ha fallito la fisica classica e perché si sono dovute prendere delle misure coraggiose per abbattere le vecchie ide. Questa è una esposizione ampiamente storica".
