This lineup presided over several landmark decisions that reinforced civil liberties and the rights of the accused. In Katz v. United States (1967), the Court expanded Fourth Amendment protections to include electronic surveillance, holding that the Constitution protects people, not just physical places. In Epperson v. Arkansas (1968), the justices struck down a state ban on teaching evolution, strengthening the Establishment Clause.
