Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. 96 pages packed with pictures and information. Billed as the World Edition, but mostly focused on Britain, on Divisions I, II and III, various Cups, Championships and international fixtures. with good accounts of different teams and 53 snapshots of different riders. Other places featured… include Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Eire, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Holland, Mid-Europe and Germany. There are also 29 pen-portraits of riders, such as former pastry cook and cake decorator Les Hewitt, 'Coventry's "cheeky chappie" [who] sports the widest grin in speedway'. This copy belonged to a Long Eaton speedway enthusiast, and feels like it spent some time being carried inside a pocket. It's rubbed around the edges, and along the stapled-spine. The bottom 17 millimetres of the spine of the cover are worn away along the outer edge, likewise with the very first page and the very last page. Otherwise, it's still well-bound. The text is clean, except for three names pencilled faintly at the top of page 1. The number 88 is for some reason inked upside down in the bottom left hand of the back cover, about a centimetre high. All in all, a good copy, with something of interest on every page. See, for example, on page 42, the New Zealand '"haka" Maori-War dance performed before matches in junior Tests and fixtures with club sides. Not just a rugby phenomenon.
