George Cruikshank (illustrator). 2nd Edition. 328 pages with a 3 page subscribers list at the front before page 1 with Queen Victoria having 50 copies and the work dedicated to The Earl of Minto, (First Lord Of the Admiralty) + 12 etched plates by George Cruikshank. Bound in original fine grain gunmetal blue cloth with gilt embossed motif of "pinnacle and rigging" and blind stamped foliate borders. gilt titles on the spine. minor edge handling, some slight aging but all plates have their tissue guards and the pages are uncut as issued. Small octavo (or on Abebooks, Duodecimo (12mo) due to sizing on actual size and not on the binders sheets for older books as in this case 1-8 signatures). Measures approx 6 x 4 inches. Very Good. Scarce. *His sea song "Tom Bowling" is often sung and played at the Last Night at the Proms and is chiefly remembered for this song, but his musical skills were matched by his dramatic work in theatre for over 30 musical plays. He always wore a blue coat white waistcoat and black stockings, spoke loquaciously and dressed to match. For a while his grave was unmarked and then apparently lost but in 1886 it was discovered to be in St Martin's Church, Pratt St, Camden Town.
