This volume contains all 22 listed plates with tissue guards; all 22 remain in good condition, if lightly foxed. First signature is detached from binding, but present and not missing any pages. Some evidence of insect damage along edges of first few pages, but it doesn't extend beyond that. Though this volume has seen some wear and tear over the years, it remains a classic of Civil War history in fair reading condition, and difficult to find complete with all 22 plates. Likely 1870s or 1880s based on paper quality. Volume 1 has 664 pages and 14 steel engravings. Volume two has 680 pages and 11 engravings. Volume three has a crack at the front gutter where backing linen is exposed. 738 pages and 14 engravings. In all, 39 steel engravings with tissue guards, which is all that is called for in the lists at the start of each volume. Overall good condition, though with some toning from age to the pages.
