Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. Some edge wear, chipping and short closed tears to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners slightly bruised, some slight overall dust and time staining, some slight spotting and yellowing to endpapers, not price c…lipped (10s 6d), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg copy for its age. 160pp. Sandy is the ten year old son of the broad Pipe Major of the Black Watch Battalion. The time is the future and covers the month of a short sharp war, begun in treachery and costing lives the world around. Sandy has no expectation that he would be an integral part of it when mischief impelled him to break every one of the windows at one end of Miss Abigail's greenhouse with his slingshot. Sandy was always a well meaning boy but things happened, and this was one of the worst. Fortunately for him, the Colonel nephew of Miss Abigail, had done the same thing in his boyhood and remembered. He knew too how to manage the dragon that was his aunt. David Harry Walker (1911-92), was a Scottish born Canadian novelist. He was born in Dundee, Scotland, later moving to St Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada, where he began his career as a writer. His work has been made into films. Jacket by Harry Toothill (illustrator).
