Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 4 volumes sold as a lot. All four volumes bound in a similar fashion: stiff colored cardstock covers made to look like leather over cloth spines with gilt lettering on the front cover and with a black and white photo of the author in the front matter of each volume. Book I: The Laws of Life: [6]7-180p. Occasional black and white captioned drawing or chart, green covers with green cloth spine. Corners of covers dinged, covers clean and bright, gilt bright, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. Book II: Paradise Lost: Man's Psycho-Physical Degeneration, Resulting in Disease and Premature Death through Ignorance and Violation of the Laws of Life: [4]5-=180p. Two black and white captioned photos. Green covers with a green cloth spine. Covers slightly soiled, gilt somewhat dulled, top and bottom of spine frayed, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. Th Book III: Regaining Man's Terrestrial Paradise by Regeneration through Biological Dietetics [2]3-168[2]p. Illustrated with numerous charts. Brown covers with brown cloth spine. Very minor wear to extremities, covers clean and bright, top and bottom of supply and frayed, gilt bright, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. Book IV: Regaining Man's Terrestrial Paradise by Regeneration through Natural Therapeutic Agents. [2]3-176p. Illustrated with a black and white photos of the author of doing exercises and several charts. Red covers over red cloth spine. Some wear to the extremities, top and bottom of spine slightly frayed, covers clean and bright, gilt bright, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. Laid in, because I do not know where it should be placed in these four volumes, is a black and white drawing entitled "Picturization of the Mountain of Life" in very good condition. It appears that there was a Book Five, which is not included in this lot, entitled "Human Sexology: Regaining Paradise through Regeneration by Means of the Preservation and Transmutation of the Sexual Fluid, which was published a year later and in Coasta Rica. The title page describes the author as a "Graduate in Naturopathy and Orthopathy." According to De La Torre, psycho-physioathy is the science of physical and spiritual regeneration and longevity. Asserting that humanity originated in the tropics, the author advocates eating natural, alkaline foods, avoiding meat, fish fowl, eggs, and cereals and their products, consistent with the diet of our ancient forebears. Fasting is recommended to cleanse the body of toxins. The body has the means of healing itself, to the extent that immortality may be achieved if the principles of psycho-physiopathy are followed. I was unable to find any biographical information on the author though it appears he may have been Costa Rican, or at least lived in Costa Rica. (He is not to be confused with the civil engineer and Minister of the Environment in Costa Rica, who lived decades later.) The first person De La Torre lists in his acknowledgments is Emmet Densmore, who is credited with promoting (like the author) an early version of the paleolithic diet. A rare set of four volumes of this seminal work. Please note: This is NOT the reprint. Also, extra postage may be required for these four volumes, which are heavy because they are printed on coated paper stock.
