Circa 1870, 4to, 280 x 220 mm, 11 x 8½ inches, shiny thin card covers, extra illustration on front in red, green and brown showing the children being taken into the wood, another on rear cover redrawn from final plate in which the robins cover the children with leaves. 4 very good attractive colour plates within, a total of 20 eight line stanzas face the plates. The publisher's name found only on the lower left corner of the image on the upper cover. Spine worn, small split at head of spine, 105 mm (4 inches) split at tail, now neatly repaired internally, corners slightly scuffed and very slightly creased, staples rusted, centre page held on 1 staple only, now very neatly glued in, the other central margin joints neatly strengthened, some offsetting from the plates onto the text. Upper board in full color chromolithography; rear board in single color and listing the five books in the Pantomime Series. 10pp of text, with the two remaining blanks serving as front and rear pastedowns. With a full color chromolithographed harlequinade inside with pages of varying sizes which tell the story of Aladdin as described in the text and as a stage production. Light wear to the corners; fingering soil; hinges neatly mended, though there is some partial separation of the inner sections; still a very good copy. Rare. .

Spine and corners slightly worn, inscription crossed through in ink at top of first text page, lower cover dusty and lightly soiled, a few slight fingermarks within. A very good copy. In the Shilling series, this one 2/- as it is mounted on linen (16 titles on lower cover which also lists 40 titles in the Sixpenny Favourite Picture Books series).
