A nice and bright very good set, with Volume III showing a bit more wear to the spine ends than the other two. On Volume II, the title page imprint is Chicago, Charles H. Kerr & Company above London, Swan Sonnenschein & Co Th…e Charles H. Kerr translation has been the authorized, standard edition in English, up until modern times. The Kerr translation is by Ernest Untermann who penned other works for Kerr. For this 1909 set, Untermann also went back to Volume I and revised that translation as well. Before taking on the job, Untermann made it clear that he needed to be paid to devote so much time to such a project. Joseph Dietzgen, a German immigrant to the US wrote several works for Kerr. He also encouraged his son Eugene to come to America. Eugene came and built up a very successful business manufacturing drafting and engineering supplies. However, he caught tuberculosis and returned to Europe where he continuted to spread his father's socialist views. When told about the Kerr project involving Kerr, Untermann and Marx's Capital, he offered his assistance and said he would underwrite the whole project. The money also enabled Untermann to start his own chicken farm. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 869; 618; 1048 pp First Edition; Later Printings & 1st printing.
