Drop-title; four small holes in the left-hand margin where stab-sewn when bound (now disbound); tiny corner tear expertly sealed; a fine copy. South Australian Parliamentary Paper Number 134 of 1866. Transcripts of three letters written by Finniss at Escape Cliffs in late 1865: a short one dated 9 November, advising the members of the Northern Territory Expedition that he had been recalled, and that James Manton was replacing him as Government Resident; one dated 20 October, detailing his last surveying instructions to Manton (issued before he learnt of his recall; and one dated 14 November, in which he summarizes the current state of affairs at Escape Cliffs. Not least, he refers to six men, including Stow, who left the river camp 'in a boat which they had constructed, and reached the cliffs on Saturday . What their intentions may be I do not know'. The voyage of the 'Forlorn Hope' had begun.

Medical MS. Notebook. St. John, 1846. A unique medical book of lecture notes, case histories and prescriptions in medicine, pharmacology, obstetrics and genecology dated from December, 1845 to March, 1847, but most entries dated in 1846. Dr. Boyle Travis (1824- 1918) was born in County Cork, Ireland in 1824 and graduated from Dublin University in 1844, immigrating to St. John, New Brunswick in 1847 during the Irish Potato Famine. The notebook even includes Boyle's exam questions from his University days. The book is a fascinating look at Victorian medicine in Canada in the mid-nineteenth century. A Canadian association copy with the bookplate of Maritime physician & bibliophile, Dr. Franklin H. Hicks, with his extensive additional information about Dr. Travers.
