Pastor. * 28.2. 1818 in Jena, 30.11. 1884 in Weimar. - Aus einer in Jena ansässigen Seifensiederfamilie stammend nahm T. 1836 das Studium der Theologie in Jena auf. Mit Prüfungsabschluß 1840 wurde er Predigtamtskandidat der evangelischen Landeskirche des Großherzogtums Sachen-Weimar-Eisenach. Während seiner Studentenzeit in Jena stand er den burschenschaftlichen Studentengemeinschaften nahe, deren ideale und politischen Zielvorstellungen in seinen Dichtungen ihren Niederschlag fanden. Während seiner Hauslehrerzeit in Augsburg war er Mitglied der neugegründeten Augsburger Liedertafel, für die er mehrere Gedichte verfaßte. Im Anschluß an seine Hauslehrerzeit wandte er sich der Inneren Mission zu und trat als erster Kandidat in das von Wichern initiierte Kandidaten-Konvikt im Rauhen Haus in Horn ein. Durch Vermittlung Wicherns war T. anschließend zunächst Inspektor und Hausvater des von Philipp von Nathusius gegründeten Knabenrettungshauses in Neinstedt und sodann Inspektor der Knabenrettungsanstalt Puckenhof bei Erlangen. 1854 konnte er die Pfarrstelle Wohlmuthausen in der Rhön übernehmen, die er bis 1860 verwaltete. Anschließend war er Pastor in Beutnitz bei Jena und in Niedergrundstedt bei Weimar. - T. bietet in der Gesamtschau seines dichterischen Schaffens ein interessantes Spiegelbild seiner Zeit: vom den Burschenschaften nahestehenden Freiheitsdichter zum patriotischen Gelegenheitsdichter.
