Frédéric, Baron de Trenck, né en 1726, intègre l'armée prussienne en 17…42. Intrépide et aventurier, il séduit la princesse Amélie, soeur du roi Frédéric II, mais ce dernier, mis au fait, l'enferme dans la forteresse de Glatz d'où notre héros s'échappe en 1746 pour entrer au service de la Russie. A la mort de son cousin François en 1749, Frédéric retourne en Allemagne pour s'occuper de son héritage. Arrêté de nouveau par Frédéric II il est confiné pendant dix ans à Magdebourg, chargé de 68 livres de chaînes. On le retrouvera plus tard à Paris en 1791. Dénoncé comme espion autrichien, il finira sur l'échafaud le 25 juillet 1794. Bel exemplaire ( Photographies sur demande / We can send pictures of this book on simple request ).

Two doodles faces on the inside front cover. The names Thomas Cronmiller 1806, Elizabeth Cronmiller and Thos Cronmiller signed on the first page. Title page signed by T.L.P. Cronmiller. Thomas Cronmiller (1758-1838) served in Pennington's NY Militia in the Revolutionary War. His son Thomas Le Page Cronmiller was a doctor in Maryland and seems to have served in the Navy during the Civil War. Text block complete. Pages toned and foxed from age.
