Auf die Bestimmungen des Tridentinums zur Ehe verkürzte Ausgabe von Giambattista Possevinos "De officio curati, ad praxim, praecipue circa repentina, &… generaliora", dessen Hauptteil eben diese "Declarationes" bilden. Die Verkürzung dürfte nicht auf willkürliche Verstümmelung durch einen Vorbesitzer, sondern vielmehr auf den Verlag selbst zurückzugehen, wie das eigenständige, sonst nicht nachgewiesene Titelblatt zeigt. Das vorliegende Exemplar enthält gegenüber denen, die Possovinos "De officio curati" am Titel tragen, nach dem (veränderten) Titelblatt den Zwischentitel, worauf unmittelbar die Lage c mit dem Index folgt; weiters fehlen das Blatt Z1 (wohl obsoleter Zwischentitel), die Blätter Z6-8 und die Schlußlage AA8 (Kollation nach ICCU). Das Werk endet vorliegend mit "Finis". - Durchgehend etwas (braun-)fleckig; bei der Neubindung im 18. Jh. etwas knapp beschnitten. Exemplar aus der Handbibliothek Dr. Heinrich Brandweiner (1910-97). Der Wiener Kirchenrechtler, seit 1948 Professor in Graz, wurde während des Kalten Kriegs wegen seiner Tätigkeit für den KPÖ-nahen österreichischen Friedensrat und kritischer Äußerungen zum Koreakrieg suspendiert. - ICCU TO0E\043351 (Variante).

Frühe Ausgabe, hier in einem Antwerpener Druck, die maßgebliche Ausgabe ist aber die 1564 bei Aldus Manutius in Rom gedruckte. Das Konzil von Trient veränderte den Ablauf des kirchlich religiösen Lebens, Pius IV forderte die in Rom anwesenden Bischöfe zur Residenz in ihren Diözesen auf, erste Diözesansynoden und bischöfliche Visitation wurden gehalten und für die Buch und Verlagssprache von Bedeutung: der Index der verbotenen Bücher wurde erstmals publiziert. Die dem Papst vom Konzil übergebenen, unvollendeten Schriften der Katechismus, das Brevier und das Messbuch erschienen dann berarbeitet unter Papst Pius V. (15651572).
