Add to basketHardback. Condition: Very Good. Presumed First Edition. 1937. Presumed first edition. 120pp. This educational book starts with a brief historical introduction, in English, to French explorers in Tasmania. Following are extracts, in French, from the works of Francoise Peron, Alexandre Dumas and the Comte de Beauvoir. The extracts… have been revised by Professor G.G. Nicholson, of the University of Sydney. At the end of the book are short notes and a vocabulary. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with black titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and light soiling to the boards. The spine ends are bumped and there is some rubbing down the spine edges. The contents are tight and clean with a few pages of the French text having useful pencil notes to aid translation. A name has been written on the rear free endpaper.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'Comedy of the Crocodile' is a significant scholarly examination of early modern German folk theater, focusing on a satirical play preserved in various historical manuscripts. Set against the backdrop of late 16th-century Nuremberg, the work explores a unique comedic tradition that bridges…the gap between medieval farce and the developing sophistication of Renaissance drama. The play centers on a humorous and absurd incident involving a crocodile, which serves as a vehicle for civic satire and social commentary.Edited and presented with critical insight by L.A. Triebel, this volume provides a meticulous study of the text's linguistic nuances and its place within the cultural fabric of the era. By comparing different manuscript versions, the work highlights the evolution of performance styles and the enduring appeal of local legends in European theater history. 'Comedy of the Crocodile' is an invaluable resource for scholars of German literature, theater historians, and readers interested in the preservation of regional folk traditions. It offers a rare window into the vibrant, often irreverent world of early modern performance and the communal identity of the Nuremberg citizenry. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible.
