Publiés pour la première fois en 1735, les Essais de ce moraliste, « bon livre de second ordre » dira Montesquieu, furent réimprimés et augmentés à plusieurs reprises au cours du XVIIIème siècle : il s agit ici de la 6ème édition en 4 volumes. Plein veau havane marbré, dos à nerfs orné de caissons et de fleurons dorés, pièce de titre rouge, pièce de tomaison havane, tranches marbrées, filet doré sur les coupes, 418pp. Ex-libris manuscrit, Harambillaque (médecin à Ustaritz) 1769, en regard de la page de titre. Usure des coins, sinon bel exemplaire solide, papier bien blanc. Les photos font partie de la description. L'abbé Trublet, (1697-1770), habitué du salon de Claudine de Tencin, fut censeur royal aux Belles-Lettres, secrétaire du cardinal de Tencin, conclaviste romain en 1740, trésorier de l'Église de Nantes puis archidiacre de Dinan. Membre de l'académie des Belles-Lettres de Berlin, il fut admis à l'Académie française quelques années avant sa mort. Il s'illustra, à ses dépens, dans une passe d'armes avec Voltaire dont, peu amateur de vers, il avait critiqué La Henriade.

Nicolas-Charles-Joseph Trublet (1697 in Saint-Malo- 1770 ebenda) war ein französischer römisch-katholischer Geistlicher, Literat und Mitglied der preußischen Akademie (seit 1749) Académie française (seit 1761). Trublet war ab 1717 Mitarbeiter des Mercure de France. Ab 1735 veröffentlichte er Essais über Literatur und Moral. Er widmete Schriften Antoine Houdar de la Motte (17132) und Bernard le Bovier de Fontenelle, Im Jahre 1760 kritisierte Trublet im vierten Band seiner Essais (hier im Angebot) die Henriade von Voltaire, der dann mit ihm polemisierte. Das hier angebotene Exemplar des Hauptwerkes liegt in der fünften und letzten von ihm betreuten Ausgabe (davon ein Slatkine-Reprint). Die EA erschien einbändig im Jahr 1735. Die beiden ersten Bande erschienen in der fünften korrigierten Aufl. 1754 , der dritte und vierte Band erschien dann jeweils zum ersten Mal 1754 und 1760. Buch.
