This publication is the first volume of the final reports on the excavations at Tell amarna, Syria, which took place from 1991-1998. It is the outcome of a close and friendly collaboration between two teams: the Syrian Archaeological Mission of the Universite de Liege, directed by O Tunca, in charge of the field work, and the team from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, led by M Molist, who was responsible for the overall research on the Halaf period. W Cruells corrdinated the research, and without his competence and limitless devotion to the task, this publication would not have been completed.
