Otherwise, a near fine copy - clean, bright and unmarked. ~SP08~ [2.0P] An anthology of scholarly essays that explore how The Church of Jesus…Christ of Latter-day Saints transitioned from a regional American faith to a globally recognized religious movement. The collection focuses on the post-World War II period, examining the factors behind the Church's unprecedented growth and increasing public prominence in politics, business, and popular culture. The book is organized into four main sections, with essays covering a variety of topics that illuminate the Church's recent history: Internationalization - The essays in this section discuss the challenges and adaptations the Church has faced as its missionary efforts have expanded globally. One chapter by Nathan B. Oman examines how international missions have shaped LDS views on secular government, while another by Taunalyn F. Rutherford details the Church's expansion into India. / Political culture: This section explores the increasing political influence of Mormonism in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. / Gender: Essays on gender roles and shifting cultural norms are also included in the collection. One chapter explores the 'soft patriarchy' often embraced by Mormons, while another looks at the intersection of public protest and gender issues, using the 'Ordain Women' movement as a case study. / Religious culture: This section addresses internal developments and cultural dynamics within the faith. It includes chapters on the Church's encounters with pluralism and its efforts to interpret its own complex history.

Digest. Condition: Good+. First Edition, 1st Printing. A nice copy of the Winter 1950 issue of the British science fiction magazine Science-Fantasy. This issue was the the second and last publication under the editorship of Walter Gillings. Science-Fantasy was published during the 1950s to accompany New Worlds magazine. In the l…ate 1940s, Gillings had produced three volumes of his first science fiction venture "Fantasy" before it failed. As a result, he was left with a substantial amount of stories purchased with the intention of publication. In 1950, Nova brought on Gillings as its editor of their new magazine, Science-Fantasy. With him came the inventory of stories from "Fantasy." After only two issues (Summer and Winter 1950) Gillings was replaced by New Worlds editor John Carnell. This copy is in remarkable condition for its age and scarcity. Cover's have some light wear and the staples have corroded over time leaving its stain on the inner margins. A soft vertical crease permeates most of the 96 numbered pages paginated [i: inner cover advertisements], [1], 2-96, [97: inner back cover advertisement for the Fantasy Book Centre]. Binding is solid with no loose pages. Pages are clean and unmarked. A good+ copy that beats many seen recently come to market. Powell, Turner, and Ernst (illustrator).
