First Edition. First edition, 4to, pp. 624; 6 folding reconnaissance maps, 2 folding profiles, 1 folding table, folding map of The Lake of the Woods, 19 lithograph plates (mostly views along the border, some tinted) numerous tables in the text throughout; a very good and reasonably sound copy in original green cloth, gilt lettering on spine. Twining was the ranking astronomer of the expedition and to him fell the responsibility of calculating the precise border from Lake of the Woods at the 49th parallel to the Rocky Mountains. This was the last segment of the Canadian border to be determined. Wheat, Transmississippi 1289; Phillips, p. 921.
