No Binding. Condition: Near Fine. An original oil on cardboard by Canadian artist Halfred Tygesen in a lovely, carved wood frame. The dimensions of the painting are 12 x 14 inches, and it is signed by the artist lower right. There are no markings verso. Tygesen worked primarily in pastels, and oil paintings by the artist are scarcely found. Born in Copenhagen in 1890, Tygesen immigrated to Canada in 1927, where he resided until his death in 1951. This painting depicts a lake at dusk with trees along a shoreline. It's painted in a post-impressionist style with visible brush strokes. The outside dimensions of the vintage wood frame are 16 x 18 inches, and it's likely the original frame carved by the artist. Condition: there is a puncture in the surface of the painting at the extreme right margin, which is located within the shadow cast by the edge of the frame. Craquelure is visible in the paint surface associated with the hole and along the bottom edge of the painting. There are three small, shallow dents in the surface of the painting, which are separate and widely distributed, with no paint loss. A small patch of paint has chipped away from the surface at the right margin, but you must look closely to see it.
