Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Lithuanian language. Octavo 13 x 18 cm. Weight 85 gr. Wrappers 78 [1] pp. The book is in Near Fine condition, without any visible defects, losses, remarks and stains. Partially damaged and repaired spine, but the cover boards are firmly attached. Cover shows slight occasional rubbing and very minor soiling; internally few light and small stains on the fly-leaf and title, couple of small closed tears. Notable avant-garde constructivist cover design by Lithuanian artist Juozas Petrenas, who became better known as an avant-garde poet than a painter. He created the design of the four issues of "Keturi vejai" group (Four Winds) and was responsible for several covers of avant-garde books and for the layout of books published by members of the Four Winds. Present book is first edition (was re-edited in 1967) of the third poetry book by the young avant- garde author. Distinctive individual style verses combine the traditions of integral lyricism with urban themes and a dynamic expressiveness. The most important lyric motifs are nature, love, village and city. His poetic language is young and energetic, main protagonist - the modern man, his troubles and worries, dreams and sadnesses. For example, in the avant-garde poem Pieni ka daina (The Milky Song) idealistic desire for happiness turns into desire to own a cow who provides food for the body and soul ("joy in the body, nirvana in the soul"). In this verse by using allusions that involve references to the Eastern culture, author extends the space of Lithuanian motives and wittily reinterprets them according to the avant-garde code, the avant-garde image combines with narrative of everyday life. In the verses the energetic gesture is softened by the gentle breeze of the wind, and vice versa - the decorative ornamental image is devastating like a childish joke. Juozas Tysliava (1902- 1961) - avant-garde poet and journalist of the early twentieth century with strong Futurist orientation, who is considered as Lithuanian Mayakovski. A member of the Four Winds, a Lithuanian cult avant-garde group. In 1925 he went to Paris and joined an international modernist group, there in 1928 published three issues of multi-language journal Muba. After 1932 he emigrated to USA.
