Nato a Brescia nel 1806 Giulio Uberti (un mazziniano radicale) partecipò combattendo all'insurrezione delle Cinque Giornate e nel 1859 era pronto ad uccidere Napoleone III (fu convinto a desistere da alcuni amici, all'ultimo). L'esistenza del poeta terminò a Milano, nella casa di Via Conservatorio 22, con una revolverata, : volle evitare alla sua giovanissima innamorata, la studentessa londinese Alice Lohr, lo scandalo di una relazione che la società del tempo non avrebbe accettato; questa sua ultima raccolta precede di poco la tragedia.
