Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. A handsome 5 X 8-inch octavo in dark green boards with "The Catholic Series" blindstamped in a floral wreath to center of each board, the boards then being further decorated with foliate blindstamped borders around their edges. Gilt titling still clear to the narrow spine, where "C. Ul…lmann" remains preferred. 116 pp. followed by Chapman's 24-page catalog of Nov. 5, 1847, listing this 15th among the 18 titles of "The Catholic Series" (Emerson's "The Emancipation of the Negroes" listed sixth. Also listed is Strauss' "The Life of Jesus, Critically Examined," which Ullmann had vigorously attacked.) The single word "Withdrawn" stamped to title page, context not clear. Ullmann's Preface is dated Heidelberg March 28, 1840, the translator's "Advertisement" London, June 6th, 1846, and the title page also M.DCCC.XLVI., but, again, the publisher's advertisements at rear are dated November 5th, 1847. Reduced from $370.
