Sept 3rd 1851 ( Virginia, now West Virginia). .signed at end by author of letter, yours truly ? E ????? ( looks a bit like Longfette but think not, as not sure of about 3 or 4 letters including 1st letter of surname, that could be same letter as Christian initial/name. .Mostly can be read, but very hard to read all the letters/words, some words not spelt correctly, The letter mentions acres of land, Ohio a few times, steam boats etc. etc. & here are some bits; To see my enemies I hope that is not the case with you, we will ??? that surprise.--------------------- The point when the Ohio River passes on one side & the Great ? ? on the other side & steer (or Steem?) boats pass ?????? ------------------ except one old Great Mill --------- Frank & John Gilmore they are making a few ? ---------- I am going to work ? a lock? Guiandotte River ( i.e. the Guyandotte River is a tributary of the Ohio River), there is a good chance for a fello to go on that river ------------- my intention is to lead a Christian life & pray for my enemies.
