Hardcover. Condition: Good+. No Jacket. Blindstamped red cloth; ornate gilt cover and spine illustrations, lettering. Part of Uncle Frank's Boy's and Girl's Library by Woodworth, founder and editor of "Woodworth's Youth's Cabinet," a 19th century children's magazine (which eventually merged with the magazine "Robert Merry's Museum"). Woodworth (1812-1859) wrote numerous moralistic tales for children, often using the device of an old man telling stories to youngsters. So it is in this book. Illustrated with plates of reproduction etchings by unknown illustrators. Heavy rubbing to cover extremities, with corners worn through to boards and frayed spine edges. Spine sunned. Few small dark stains to front cover cloth. Prior owner inscription on front endpaper. Foxing to last blank endpaper. Otherwise clean and tight.
