COPAC lists this item as D4422cc where the D stands for items bomb-damaged during the Blitz and there is no other copy of our book on COPAC. However another book with this exact title is listed, it is NOT THE SAME BOOK because "Blind Alice and her Benefactress" is there listed as "by the author of Jessie Graham [ie Maria J.McIntosh] and also in the Home Library for Little Readers series and published by Nelson. That book is 111pp long and includes music and is dated 1848.*Our book tells of two friends who catch scarlet fever one is cured,but the other is blinded by the disease and her friend overhears talk about doctors that may be able to cure blindness.Her friend,Harriet now begs for money to give to the blind Alice to enable her to be cured but her grandfather tells her he has bought a pony with this money for her instead.She begs him to sell her pony so as to give the money to Alice.Although the doctors find they cannot cure Alice they teach her to read and do useful work and the two children are happy to be reunited. Really quite rare no copy in UK libraries. 1 volume. Hardcover.
