Mass Market Paperback. Condition: Good. Dick (Last Name Undetermined) (illustrator). Repaired; Light Creasing on Front, Rear Covers, Spine; Front, Rear Covers, Spine Lightly Chipped; Spine Moderately Cocked; Edges Moderately Soiled; Heavy Yellowing Due to Age. BOOK NUMBER: 293. ISBN: 0-373-70793-2. NOTE: This ISBN is also attached to the unrelated novel, When Sparks Fly, by Lynette Kent. SYNOPSIS: "Women need a little rough treatment!" Renny listened to her husband's uncompromising statement in silence. Carl's angry cynicism was hardly surprising. Eight years before, she had responded to his kindness by deserting him on their wedding day. Now she had come to Singapore to ask Carl for a divorce, so that she could remarry. But incredibly, Renny found herself drawn to Carl's powerful, magnetic personality like a moth to flame. Could she extricate herself from this potentially dangerous situation? Or would her love be the weapon by which he would vengefully destroy her? Anne Hampson: Traveling gave this former teacher the urge to write, so she switched from the classroom to the typewriter. Though she writes at home in Dorset, the exotic backgrounds in her novels have been fully researched. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Fair to Good. See scans and description. Istanbul: el-Hac Suleyman Seyh Yalvaci Coskunzade, 1881. See: Seyfettin Ozege's catalogue of Ottoman books, # 10970. In Turkish, written in Ottoman script. Lithographed. 8vo, Quarter leather and cloth, decorated in blind and gilt. Rubbed and worn, bowed, soiling; hinges cracked, tape to last page, rusty paperclip mark to rear endpapers, pages tanned, some chipping; fair to good. An intriguing-looking text, the Arabic date being 1299, which is roughly 1882; laid-in library card states 1881, Istanbul. While I'm unable to translate this piece, it is about or by Ummi Sinan. It is probably a hagiography of that holy man, perhaps a recounting of his life and teachings. Ummi Sinan, who died in 1551, was the founder of the dervish order known as Sinanye, which is a branch of the Halveti order. His birthplace is not known with certainty, but may have been either Prizrin (in Kosovo) or Bursa or Karaman (in Asia Minor, now Turkey). His original name was Ibrahim, but he took the name Ummi Sinan; the "ummi", meaning "ignorant", was a nickname he adopted from humililty - he was in fact very accomplished in religious studies. In any case, fascinating and of precious aspect and implications, and it makes one wish one could read it. A rare small enigma. See scans. L17n.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Small oblong quarto measuring 10" x 7". String-tied black paper board with "photographs" stamped on the front board. Contains 256 black and white or sepia toned gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1.5" x 1.5" and 4" x 6" with some captions. Loose pages, worn edges, and tiny tears thus very good with near fine photographs. A photo album of World War II era snapshots kept by an American woman, Helen, who worked in a bank in New Jersey during the 1940s. The photographs show her family and friends posing around their homes, most of which are in the New Jersey area between 1940 and 1945 according to the few captions available. It also appears from two photos of her at an office that she was a bank teller at least part time and was going to high school, photos of her graduating are seen here. Some of the photos show her posing with soldiers on leave and even capture her and her friends trying on their male friend's military uniforms, as well as with a few girls in WAACs and WAVES uniforms. Many of the photos appear to have been sent home from overseas by friends and admirers that she was in contact with during the war. The men she talked to appeared to be in the Navy and Army and are seen here both on duty and home on leave. A few photos were taken in unidentified barracks and camps and one shows a man in a Marines baseball uniform with a "passed censor" stamp on the verso as well as another photo of an Army band. A few other camp photos include one of a man posing with a gun, another shows a group of men repairing a train, and another shows two men goofing off with one carrying the other on his back. Many of the photos taken on leave show the men posing with girls, possibly girlfriends, as well as their parents. One photo shows a pair dressed up for a dance, another shows a naval cadet shaking hands with an army cadet, and another shows a couple posing in a field. A few of the captions mention a "Pete" whom it appears Helen was sending photos and letters to. A photo of her posing by a tree reads, "Helen taken Sunday January 10, 1943 - Notice the graduation pin and the wrist watch, I still didn't lose them as you can see. That's my new outfit isn't it nice?" An extensive collection of snapshots that reflect the concerns of a young woman on the home front, as well as the military camp life of her correspondents during World War II.
