Add to basketBritish silk manufacturer (1862-1930). All items in very good condition, although some with grubby and creased corners. All signed 'Frank Warner' and most docketed and carrying the Society's stamp. The seventeen typed letters are quarto; the manuscript items and draft reply all 12mo. An interesting collection from an active member of the Society, casting light on its activities. Warner makes suggestions, proposes members, subscribes to an endowment fund, discusses committee affairs and the award of a diploma, comments on a draft report and on the group classification of a competition. Concerning a forthcoming paper on artificial silk he writes (1 October 1926) 'I would rather not take the Chair as there may be people present at the meeting who remember the long fight I put up against Artificial Silk when I was President of the Silk Association ten or more years ago. I was the means of getting several firms prosecuted for "misdescription" under the Merchandise Marks Act and the convictions which followed were accompanied in some cases with very heavy fines. Those troublesome days are fortunately over so far as I am concerned; [.]'. Manuscript letters on letterheads of the South Eastern Hotel, Deal (13 Sept 1924, 1 page, regarding a 'proposed exhibition of Textile Designs in Manchester'; Grand Hotel, Broadstairs (16 Sept 1926, 1 page, regarding forthcoming meeting of the Textile Section Committee, and search for 'new method of raising money'); and the Board of Trade (6 May 1919, 1 page, proposing five competition judges).
