Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. quare octavo 22.5x19.5 cm., wrappers, (16) pp. OBERIU writer Aleksandr Vvedenskii (1904-1941) wrote a children's poem about the Russian civil war between the Bolsheviks and the White Army. It depicts the Soviet First Cavalry Army led by Semën Mikhailovich Budënnyi (1883-1973), whose… fighting skills helped the Bolshevik victory, and the leading opponents: Wrangel, the commander of the Whites; Ukrainian anarchist Nestor Makhno; and the Polish President Jozef Pilsudski, emphasizing their evil traits and dastardly motivations. Vvedenskii was an absurdist poet, pushing the boundaries of literature into new dimensions with Daniil Kharms. Both wrote children's books as acceptable employment by the state but were also extraordinarily gifted in this fieldand their books were met with great success. Artwork by Valentin Ivanovich Kurdov (1905-1989), who studied at VKhUTEIN and GINKhUK under Malevich, and employed cubist and suprematist elements in his work. From 1927 he focused on book illustration, with special emphasis in children's literature. OCLC locates six holdings in North America.
