Broché en papier marbré de la Société rouennaise de bibliophiles. Etiquette de titre sur le premier plat, en bon état malgré de petites usures en marges. Réimpression d'un texte ancien et tiré à petit nombre sur beau papier vergé par la Société Rouennaise de Bibliophiles (non mise dans le commerce). Exemplaire N°66 de M. de Duranville. Dans son oeuvre non seulement l'auteur a vu ce qu'il raconte, mais il a pris dans la défense de la ville une part des plus actives; à chaque pas du récit on le rencontre à la tête des Bourgeois, dont il était un des douze capitaines. Une foi très vive et très ardente l'animait; ce n'est point seulement le citoyen qui agit mais avant tout le catholique passionné armé pour défendre sa religon qu'il croit en péril par l'arrivée de Henri IV, ce roi huguenot partisan de Calvin qui ne saurait à ses yeux prétendre à monter sur le trône de saint Louis.

L'auteur a tiré ses informations de l'ouvrage de l'abbé Siri : Il Mercurio, overo historia dei correnti tiempi. Cet abbé italien, pensionné par Mazarin, avait vécu en France en 1649 et 1650. Ses sources étaient en particulier des documents originaux que lui avait transmis Hugues de Lionnes. Cela dit, Valdory commence son histoire à la naissance du Cardinal en 1585. Lelong se demande donc où il a puisé ce qui précède le début du Mercurio de Siri (1635). Il doûte que cela soit une traduction.
