Ce service dégénéra en émeute jacobine et se termina par le sac de l'église Saint Germain et du palais de l'archevêque. Habilement utilisés par Adolphe Thiers, sous-secrétaire d'Etat à l'intérieur, ces troubles contribuèrent au recours au "Parti de l'ordre" de Casimir Périer.
