Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the origins of the legends found in the Iliad. The author argues that the earliest versions of the Trojan War story featured Aias, a Locrian leader, rather than Achilles. By tracing the evolution of the Iliad's narrative through various stages of oral tradition, the book sheds light on the development of Greek mythology and epic poetry. The author's analysis reveals that the story of the Trojan War is a composite of multiple traditions, each reflecting the beliefs and values of different groups of people. The book concludes that the Iliad is not simply a tale of war and heroism, but also a complex and multifaceted reflection of the social and cultural history of ancient Greece.
