Van Valkenburgh (1821-1888) served in the New York State Assembly in 1852, 1857, and 1858, and in the U.S. Congress from 1861 to 1865. He commanded the 107th New York Volunteer Infantry at the Battle of Antietam. After the Civil War, he served as Minister Resident to Japan from 1866 to 1869. John H. Reynolds (1819-1875) was an attorney in Albany, NY, and represented New York in Congress from 1859 to 1861. The arguments in favor of the erection of a bridge over the Hudson River at Albany presented here led to the incorporation of the Hudson River Bridge Company on April 9, 1856, under special act of the State of New York, authorizing the construction of a bridge across the Hudson River. Scarce. In Very Good- Condition: disbound but solid; faint dampstain along upper page edges; otherwise, clean and intact.
