paperback. Condition: Very Good. Color Illustrations (illustrator). Minor shelf wear, binding tight, pages clean and unmarked. This exhibition of paintings by Richard Diebenkorn consists of 9 works on paper and 8 large oils on canvas completed between 1949 and 1955. All are stunningly beautiful and of great interest as they relate to his work in general, both abstract and figurative. By 1955, Diebenkorn's early abstract paintings had reached an artistic peak and he had become well-known to the art world both in New York and California. It was in this same year that his highly documented return to figuration began. Apart from museum group shows and Diebenkorn's three traveling museum retrospectives, the pictures in this exhibition have not been seen since the 1950s. Our exhibition should add much to the understanding of the early development of this great artist's work. I thank Phyllis Diebenkorn and her family for making this exhibition possible.
