Jan Walravens (1920-1965), een temperamentvol criticus, bracht via het tijdschrift Tijd en Mens een naoorlogse generatie experimentele schrijvers samen. Minder bekend is dat hij ook een indrukwekkend kunstkritisch oeuvre naliet, zowel in de krant en voor radio en televisie als in monografieën, essays, catalogi, lezingen en tentoonstellingen.
