He is at the event of his daughter's wedding. Michael, Vito's youngest son and a decorated WWII Marine is also present at the wedding. Michael seems to be uninterested in being a part of the family business. Vito is a powerful man, and is kind to all those who give him respect but is ruthless against those who do not. But when a powerful and treacherous rival wants to sell drugs and needs the Don's influence for the same, Vito refuses to do it. What follows is a clash between Vito's fading old values and the new ways which may cause Michael to do the thing he was most reluctant in doing and wage a mob war against all the other mafia families which could tear the Corleone family apart. ** Reviewers say 'The Godfather' is acclaimed for its intricate narrative, deep character exploration, and universal themes of power, family, and loyalty. The film's deliberate pacing, iconic performances by Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, and its significant influence on the gangster genre are often lauded. Critics also praise the cinematography, memorable score by Nino Rota, and its cultural impact. ** Minor Wear to covers and Edges, cover creasing; Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" Tall. Book.

Copac locates several copies of this edition and notes that, in contradiction to this copy, it has M'Creery's imprint on the title verso. An extremely popular contemporary work on public finance and taxation which ran to ten editions in the year. The need for haste in making copies available perhaps goes some way to explaining the manner of issue: the sections having been simply folded and stab-sewn through the gutter margin. The author's was work was summed up in the Monthly review where the reviewers held that Walsh was 'much too eager to censure indiscriminately the whole system of the French government; forgetting that continued vehemence is generally hurtful to the cause of the pleader. yet the importance of the matter intitles it to an attentive analysis.'.

Soft cover. Fair. Lower right margin extended. Priced accordingly. Size 9.25 x 13 Inches. This is a rare presentation variant of Currier and Ives' 1870 lithograph view, 'The Great West.' Like many Currier and Ives prints, the image capitalizes on the American fascination with the dramatic scenery and potential of Westward Expansion. The present example represents a curious variant presented by Dr. S. VanMeter of Charleston of the Illinois Infirmary. A Closer Look The view looks on a green valley set against the backdrop of dramatic mountains, which can only be the Rocky Mountains. A four-car passenger train exits the valley and the small town, which is nestled at the base of the mountains. Rocky cliffs and pine trees occupy the foreground. Samuel VanMeter Samuel VanMeter was a homesteader whose family settled in Illinois when he was a child. VanMeter became a doctor and founded a hospital in Charleston, Illinois, known as the 'Infirmary'. He also published VanMeter's Journal of Health . Sometime in the 1870s, he commissioned a general run of small-format Currier and Ives prints bearing the dedication 'Presented by Dr. S. Vanmeter and Co. of Charleston Illinois, Infirmary.' Although otherwise similar to the standard prints, variants with the VanMeter dedication are much rarer. Publication History and Census This print was engraved and published by Currier and Ives in 1870. It appears on the market from time to time, but we see no other examples of the VanMeter variant.
