Prima ed unica rara edizione di questo interessante ed approfondito saggio che prende in esame il tema della scomunica e le sue diverse modalità di applicazione nei secoli. Opera del filosofo ginevrino John, VAUCHER (1804-1869), fondatore l' 11 aprile 1823 della sezione ginevrina della Zofingue, Société des Vieux-Zofingiens (Schweizerischer Zofingerverein), una delle associazioni studentesche più antiche della Svizzera. Il testo è suddiviso in tre periodi: "Dalla nascita di Cristo all' avvento di Costantino il Grande sul trono di Cesare."; "Dal 513 alla presa di Costantinopoli da parte dei Turchi nel 1453". in cui la scomunica non si applica solo più ai peccatori scandalosi e agli eretici; "Dalla presa di Costantinopoli nel 1455 alla Riforma religiosa del 1520"; "Dalla Riforma ai nostri giorni".in cui Calvino ristabilì la disciplina ecclesiastica della Chiesa Primitiva.
