Es gibt noch andere Leute, die interessante Arbeit zu bieten haben. Sie ist zwar nicht ehrenvoll, dafür aber umso einträglicher. Jim Vaus, der Geld zu schätzen weiß, wird technischer Berater der kalifornischen Unterwelt. Bis zu einem Tag im November 1949. Von da an geht Jim Vaus den schweren Weg zurück. Sein Buch ist ein abenteuerlicher Rechenschaftsbericht.
