Add to basketCondition: Very Good. Not published. A4. pp. [i], 2, [89], [i] notes, [xiv] index., recto only. The pagination of pp. 76 does not take account of extra pages. Approximately 38,540 words. Contained in a W H Smith typing paper card packet with typed title sellotaped to front. Another label states that this is an unpublished manusc…ript, probably written in the mid-1950s. Address on title page of 73, The Vale, Golders Green N.W.11. Occasional ink annotations and corrections in Veale's hand. An historical account of the part played by Russian seamen in the Russo-Japanese War (1904 Ð 1905) that Veale refers to as a 'half-forgotten war with Japan' that 'should be judged in its proper perspective.' He includes the origins of the war, the war itself, the siege of Port Arthur, the Dogger Bank incident and the route of the Baltic Fleet round the Cape of Good Hope, the subsequent battle and the sinking of the Suvrov, Borodino and Alexander III and the aftermath of the war. He stresses the relevance of it now, 'when the future policy of Russia is such vital concern to Britain, to Europe and to the world.' Ernest William Partington Veale (died 1975) was an author who was closely associated with the London, Chatham and Dover Railway. He wrote a railway scrapbook and a history of cross-channel travel. Very good. c1955.
