We are greatly indebted to the Frans Hals Museum and the municipality of Haarlem for agreeing to lend these superb demonstrations of Hals's ability to invest his sitters with life and character, they also show that Hals thrived when confronted with the considerable challenge of incorporating a large number of likenesses into a single work.
