The Baldwin-Felts Detective Agency was created in the 1890's by William Gibboney Baldwin as the Virginia & West Virginia Railroad Detectives, later changed to Iron & Coal Police of West Virginia, and in 1910 finally changed to Baldwin-Felts Detectives when Thomas Lee Felts became partner. This book is a history of the Agency who figured significantly in the 1906 Brownsville Raid, the 1912 Hillsville tragedy, the 1913 Colorado Coal Strike, and the 1920 Matewan massacre, along with the Hatfield & McCoys feud, and chasing down moonshiners.
