Outre ces clichés jusqu'à présent inédits, cet ouvrage contient de nombreuses archives qui dévoilent une face inexplorée du grand penseur que nous connaissons aujourd'hui : il hésitait alors entre psychologie et philosophie, montrait un certain intérêt pour la Daseinsanalyse de Ludwig Binswanger, expérimentait les tests de Rorschach et commençait à prendre ses distances avec une approche classique de la maladie mentale. Tout cela annonçait son Histoire de la folie à 1'âge classique (1961). Réunissant anthropologues, philosophes, médiévistes et spécialistes de la pensée de Foucault, ce livre est l'occasion de mesurer l'impact de cette journée particulière de 1954 sur la suite de son parcours et de sa réflexion.
