Affascinante album redatto e disegnato dal vero dal Capo di Stato Maggiore dell esercito francese Charles Vertray testimone oculare dei fatti d arme che portarono alla caduta della Repubblica Romana. Le belle tavole - tutte animate da soldati in divisa, tende e cavalli - ritraggono talvolta località di Roma trascurate da altri vedutisti e oggi profondamente diverse. Folio formato album (cm. 43x61), frontespizio litografico con al centro il titolo entro elegante cornice e ai lati cinque vedutine di Roma in tondo e due ovali con scenette militari, 16 pp. di testo su due colonne con la relazione degli avvenimenti, 13 splendide litografie in tonalità seppia raffiguranti Roma e il suo circondario (Santa Severa e la costa laziale, Castel di Guido, Acquatraversa, Ponte Milvio, Piazza del Quirinale, Villa Aldobrandini, Acqua Acetosa, ecc.), 4 carte topografiche ripiegate tra cui una grandissima pianta di Roma e dintorni.
